Born in 1969 in the North East of England, Andy Phillipson is a professional photographer who lives, works, laughs and loves in Edinburgh.
Andy combines a creative enthusiasm and passion for photography to create beautiful images which he hopes can arrest the viewer and instil in them a moment of reflection. Much of his work explores the relationship between art and photography and indeed often attempts to marry the two disciplines.
Highlights
During the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Andy's major solo exhibition - 'Portraits From the North' enjoyed an extended stay at the city's Italian Cultural Institute. Andy was also the artist in residence at Home House Edinburgh for the inaugural exhibition - ‘Impressions & Abstractions’ which enjoyed an extended run in 2007.
Amongst other places, Andy’s work has further been exhibited at Kew Gardens, Wakehurst Place, RHS Wisley and in London’s Cork Street at the Medici Gallery.
Currently the 2nd place prize winner in the Royal Horticultural Society photographic comp 2009-10 ‘Close up’ category, Andy is making his fourth consecutive successful appearance in the competition. Additionally 4 of Andy's images have recently reached the semi final stage of this year's Wildlife photographer of The Year Competition.
Andy is currently working on ongoing projects both at home and abroad as well as undertaking special commissions. He is also presently the Edinburgh & Fife photographer for The Public Catalogue Foundation's project to catalogue the nation's oil paintings.
When he is not behind the lens, Andy Phillipson loves pizza, dogs and the music turned up loud, but has very little time for politicians, rude people or mayonnaise. Andy doesn't really want to grow up or get any older and has never aspired to own a credit card. Andy also thinks that the plural of 'canvas' should be 'canvi'.
